Utah Legends Golf Tournaments

The Utah Legends Golf Tournament began in 2016 and has grown in each year of its existence. In 2016, over 200 players and sponsors attended, raising over $35,000 for charities around the state of Utah. In 2017, over 250 players, sponsors, media members, former players, coaches, and volunteers attended the tournament and raised over $150,000! The money raised in the 2017 tournament went towards helping a number of youth in the state of Utah, including: scholarship money for future college students who attend Calvary Baptist Church, school supplies and healthy meals for under-served elementary schools, and sports equipment for high school and club teams across the state. We hope to continue our efforts and build off the momentum gained in the 2017 event, and make 2018 even better!

2017 Tournament:

In 2017, the Ron McBride Foundation looked to improve on its efforts in 2016 and create the best event in the state dedicated to raising funds for education. Celebrities, major sponsors, former players, and families of the MAFU crowd-fund campaign came out in droves to support the foundation and its initiatives. With the efforts of our many volunteers and donors, the Ron McBride Foundation raised over $150,000! All of these funds were put towards helping the many youth in the state who needed it. Funds went everywhere from college scholarships, to sporting equipment for local youth teams and organizations.

A few of the highlights from the 2017 tournament were: Former players and All-Pro athletes Steve Smith and Jordan Gross attended the event, Kyle Whittingham (Utah), Kalani Sitake (BYU), and Jay Hill (Weber State) played as well, and we honored those lost with over $30,000 raised from the MAFU crowd-funding campaign.

2016 Tournament:

In 2016, the Utah Legends Golf Tournament held its first event.  With over 200 players and major sponsors, it was a clear success. Coaches Ron McBride and Lavell Edwards highlighted the event.  Each was instrumental in creating and sustaining a lasting friendship that went beyond the football field.  Both men have been models for so many young players, causes and a unity of purpose to make the lives of our children and youth better in every way.  Yet both focused on “getting a solid education.”  Last year $35,000 was given to charities across the Greater Salt Lake area.

The funds from our 2016 event were a good starting point.  We are indebted to the sponsors, players and volunteers who made the event a memorable and impactful one.  In retrospect, this was just a starting point in a long journey.  The Ron McBride Foundation will continue to elevate our children, youth and young adults in their quest for academic achievement, optimal health and well-being.  We are committed to improving the communities in which they live, the schools they attend and their emergence as leaders of the country’s future.
