The Play for Life Tennyson Cecchini Memorial Golf Tournament...

Has collaborated with the Utah Opioid Task Force and the Ron McBride Foundation to help save the lives of those suffering from opioid abuse. This year’s event, held on Oct. 11 at the Hidden Valley Country Club, will donate all proceeds to the University of Utah, Department of Psychiatry Addiction Fellowship Program. The goal is to expand access to clinical services for addiction treatment in our community.

Currently in Utah, every week, six to eight people die from an opioid or heroin overdose.  This crisis is compounded by the shortage of well-trained, substance use disorder specialists. Play for Life is tackling this issue head-on by raising funds for professionals entering the field of substance use disorder medicine. “Drug use disorder is a treatable disease, yet we do not have sufficient clinicians to provide timely evidence-based treatment,” says Dennis Cecchini, whose son Tennyson died of a heroin overdose in 2015 at the age of 33. “The individuals who receive this support have made a commitment to pursue a career that will have a huge impact on our community.”  The proceeds from the tournament will go directly to support students and fellows at the University of Utah who are part of the substance misuse medicine or substance misuse psychiatry programs. Mr. Cecchini is a member of the Utah Opioid Task Force.

The Utah Opioid Task Force works in collaboration with groups nationally and across the state to address the effects of opioid addiction. The Utah Opioid Task Force includes leaders from government, law enforcement, and the medical and recovery community, as well as other concerned and interested individuals from across the State. It is co-chaired by Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes, US Senator Mike Lee and Brian Besser, USDEA Utah District Agent in Charge.
